Description:
Elgin 16S 17J adj. 3p hunting case movement (HCM) G.M. Wheeler grade 337 pocket watch #14136276, attractive nickel 3-finger bridge movement with screw-down jewel settings and a bar-style damascene pattern, incredible translucent deep maroon-red fancy enamel guilloche-style dial that highlights the engraved pattern on the base plate of a radiating center design surrounded by a ring of rope design and finished to the edges with a wider line radiating pattern, fancy gold Arabic-style numbers, gold 5 minute markers and silver (or possibly green gold) minute markers, this same silver/green gold material then outlines the seconds register with gold interior markings, dial does have some hairlines, gold steel spade & whip style hands.
Heavy yellow gold filled (YGF) hinge back & bezel (HB&B) case with engine turning behind the fancy monogram shield, elaborate monogram in the shield is possibly "ILN", recessed hinges and a large heavy bow, case is showing moderate even wear overall with notable smoothing to the engine turning & engraving along with thin lines of brass starting to show on the bezels, frame and pendant, additionally it appears the bow is a replacement as the color is slightly off from the rest of the case, measures approx. 50mm diameter x 68mm in length x 15mm thick (crystal included). A very high quality Elgin from the early 1900s, and even with the cosmetic flaws from over 100 years of use, this stunning dial will still draw your eye and should be seen to be truly appreciated, in very good overall condition!
