Elgin 16S 16J lever set (LS) adj. grade 83 pocket watch #898186, impressive gilt split plate movement with a fancy plate layout, screw-down jewel settings, a brushed finish, an elaborately engraved balance bridge and a conversion wheel and engraved center wheel bridge for the sweep second function, porcelain enamel dial with Roman numerals, a black Arabic number 5 minute track and an outer hashmark track that has minutes spaced with 1/5th marks, dial has a few small spots of discoloration and a few small flakes around the edge however no hairlines, purple steel moon style hands and a purple sweep second hand with an open circle accent on the short end.
Re-cased into an attractive white base metal (WBM) smooth polish screw back & bezel (SB&B) glass back & bezel (GB&B) salesman's display case with coin edge engraving around the back bezel, a short heavy pendant with a recessed crown, a large bow and glass crystals, case is showing normal moderate wear with some spots of discoloration on the bezels, pendant & bow and some smoothing to the engraving in places, this case is likely pieced together from two different models to create the display case as the different bezel finishes indicate along with a very slight lip on the front bezel to the frame, measures approx. 55mm in diameter x 72mm in length x 20mm thick (crystals included). A very high quality and distinctive vintage Elgin from the 1880s, a wonderful watch to be shown in a display case with the eye-catching movement, in very good overall condition!
