Description:
Elgin 6S 11J lever set (LS) grade 101 ladies' pocket watch #2854577, handsome nickel split plate movement with a fancy plate layout and a concentric circle damascene pattern, amazing mint single sunk (SS) porcelain enamel dial with fancy Arabic numbers and a black-marked subsidiary seconds register has been fully hand painted with a detailed multi-colored scene of a brown & tan bird in flight over a bouquet of purple, yellow & white flowers with green vines & foliage and a mottled pastel background in orange, yellow & green hues, there are a few small spots of paint missing near the edge of the dial, mostly under the bezel, blue steel spade style hands.
Impressive heavy 14k Dueber fully engraved hunting case (HC), the 14k hallmark, word "Dueber" and the anchor hallmark are all stamped (not engraved), the entire case has been engraved with a machined pattern of scalloped vermicelli which is then accented with numerous small five-pointed faceted stars, one side has an elaborate faceted six-pointed star in the center while the reverse side has a fancy monogram that appears to have a cover up engraving where there was likely a monogram and now there is a swirled pattern very similar to the case engraving, a short sculpted pendant, a heavy bow and a glass crystal, case is showing hardly any wear with scant scuffing or smoothing across any of the surfaces, the only cosmetic defects of note are a few short scratches on the frame near the dust cover lip from case opening, measures approx. 40mm in diameter x 58mm in length x 12mm thick, weighs approx. 36.9dwt (movement & case included). This is an heirloom quality solid gold Elgin from the 1880s that would be difficult to find again today in this condition, one that must be seen to be truly appreciated, in near mint condition overall!
