Elgin 17J grade 524 wrist watch #36725891, vintage mechanical manual-wind nickel split plate movement with bold red ruby jewels, single sunk (SS) champagne-toned metal dial with a sunburst brushed finish, raised gold Arabic style numbers and a black-marked subsidiary seconds register is mint in the dial display area but has some scratches under the bezel from where the dial and case have been rubbing together, bold gold steel whip style hands with pointed tips.
Distinctive yellow gold filled (YGF) rectangular Elgin case with a smooth polish rounded sloped bezel supporting a thick glass crystal and an offset side frame that extends on each end to rounded, inner-curving extended lugs, case is showing normal even wear overall with a few light scratches and scuffs on the case and crystal and a few small spots of brass starting to show on some case edges, additionally there are some expert but extensive repairs on the back cover, with each of the back cover corners now reinforced with a silver solder repair that has been smoothed out and extended along length of the watch, when viewed from the side it now appears the case is a later model with a stainless steel (SS) back rather than the original full gold-filled model, we can replace the crystal with a new plastic one at no charge on request, measures approx. 25mm wide x 35mm lug to lug x 8mm thick (crystal included), lightly padded, lightly textured black leather strap band. A very attractive Elgin from the 1930s in an uncommon art-deco style case that someone has taken the time to extend the useable life of with repairs in good overall condition, perfect for a distinctive watch to wear everyday!
