Citizen 21J quickset automatic (self-winding) grade 8200A with day & date Mickey Mouse wrist watch, mint dark blue metal dial with a sunburst finish, bright red & yellow hour markers, white minute markers and a white-outlined day & date aperture at 3 o'clock has a large image of Mickey Mouse on the left hand side in white, yellow, red & black; day & date displays are black numbers/letters on a silver background, heavy silver baton-style hands with pointed tips and white & black enamel inlay down the center of each along with a silver sweep second hand, heavy white base metal (WBM) & stainless steel (SS) cushion-shaped water-resistant case with a raised round smooth polish bezel with a flat glass crystal and a heavy frame with a brushed finish over the steeply tapered center hidden lugs, case is showing light normal wear with a few small scuffs however the crown is likely a replacement as, while it does work in all positions correctly, it does not sit flush to the frame, measures approx. 36mm wide x 40mm lug to lug x 11mm thick (crystal included), new lightly padded black leather strap band. A fun, high quality mechanical movement Mickey Mouse watch from the 1980s in excellent overall condition!

At PM Time Service, we refer to a "character watch" as any watch that has a dial, and possible other components, that have a cartoon character, public figure or a fictional character printed on them. There were many companies, such as US Time, Ingersoll and Timex, that were commissioned by the character-owner (such as Disney for example) to produce watches with these images, and in most cases, the characters watches were completed at the factory and not as an after-market addition. While most of the PM Time Service character watches are vintage, this type of watch is still in production today, albeit with updated quartz movements.

Character watches were primarily targeted towards children and as such, a large number of the watches produced were of lower quality or "dollar watches" and were also considered ladies' or mid-sized. While the original focus group for sales may have been targeted at children and young adults, we do see many purchases today by adults for their own use.
